Abstract
Fraud remains a significant challenge in Nigeria, affecting businesses, financial institutions, and public organizations, often leading to financial losses and reduced trust. Traditional auditing methods, which rely heavily on manual processes, are time-consuming, prone to errors, and often unable to detect sophisticated fraudulent activities. This study presents the design and implementation of an automated forensic auditing system aimed at preventing fraud and improving transparency in financial operations. The system leverages advanced data analysis techniques, including pattern recognition and anomaly detection, to identify irregular transactions in real time. It also provides a centralized database for storing and monitoring financial records, generating comprehensive audit reports, and supporting decision-making for management and regulatory authorities. Designed with a user-friendly interface, the system allows auditors to track suspicious activities efficiently, reducing human error and enhancing accountability. By automating key aspects of forensic auditing, this system strengthens internal controls, mitigates the risk of fraud, and promotes trust in organizational processes. The findings demonstrate that integrating technology into auditing practices is a practical and effective approach to combating financial fraud, ensuring compliance, and supporting sustainable growth in Nigeria’s business and financial sectors.
